The Energy Policy and Procurement (EPP) organization procures a reliable supply to meet the electricity and gas demands of our customers 24 hours a day. We reduce customer costs and attain stable prices through contracting and financial hedging instruments and in doing so, maintain a focus on sustainability by supporting environmentally-preferred resources.
The Policy Analysis Department in Energy Policy and Procurement (EPP) provides PG&E leaders and other externally-facing personnel (e.g., lobbyists, communications, government affairs) with timely information, analysis, recommendations, and responses to questions, on matter related to public policy (including, but not limited to, energy policy). The Policy Analysis team also supports the internal development of PG&E’s preferred policy positions by providing analysis and recommended policy positions on matters related to public policy, and leads the internal development of PG&E’s preferred policy positions on selected energy policy matters. The team utilizes effective project management, strong written communication and facilitation skills, and breadth of scope to bring together a broad set of goals and objectives.
The Policy Alignment team within the Policy Analysis Department is looking for a talented summer intern to support the team in understanding best practices for policy development and advocacy. This is an important initiative for the Policy Analysis Department as it strives to position PG&E to have a best in class energy policy function.Project duties are expected to include, but not be limited to:
Conducting literature reviews and potentially interviews of best in class companies or organizations focused on policy development and/or advocacy;
Creating a catalogue of best practices in policy development and/or advocacy already in play at PG&E;
Analyzing potential gaps in policy development and/or advocacy at PG&E;
Helping establish new venues and governance structures aimed at increasing alignment at PG&E on high priority issues, such as rate design; and
Making actionable recommendations that PG&E could implement.
The successful intern will have the opportunity to lead and/or support activities as described above working with a team of experienced employees on the Policy Alignment team and across PG&E. Additionally, the intern will gain knowledge of the larger Energy Policy and Procurement organization and other organizations across PG&E (e.g., Regulatory Affairs) through the work they will be performing and scheduled engagements, such as brown bags.
- Earning a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in economics, business administration, public policy, or a related field (students must be continuing education towards degree during and/or after internship)
3.0 GPA or greater in both cumulative GPA and major GPA
Experience in utilities, engineering, and/or public policy
Experience and/or interest in organizational design and organizational effectiveness
Ability to work in a team environment and support fellow team members
Strong problem solving and analytical skills
Strong communication skills, both oral and written
Takes initiative and can work independently with minimal direction
PG&E typically is unable to provide VISA sponsorship to students on an F-1, J-1 or other student visa for this position.
