WSP has one of the top tunnel and geotechnical engineering groups in the nation. WSP Geotechnical and Tunneling Technical Excellence Center has an immediate opening for a Lead Tunnel Engineer to provide tunneling and underground services to its clients on design and construction of major transportation, underground and water resources projects in California.
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Tunnel Engineer for our San Francisco office.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Task lead for design and construction of tunnel and underground projects
Develop and prepare plans, specifications and reports for tunnels and underground projects
Perform structural and geotechnical analyses for the design of tunnels, underground openings, portals and shafts for transit/transportation projects
Development of plans and specifications related to geotechnical, underground and foundation engineering
Provide tunnel or underground related inspection services during construction
Develop clients and business opportunities in tunneling and underground markets both internally and externally

BS in Civil Engineering from an accredited School of Engineering
MS in Civil engineering with Geotechnical or Tunnel Engineering focus
Minimum of 7 years’ experience in tunnel related or geotechnical engineering practice, US preferred
California PE registration is required
Proven experience in design and construction including excavation of tunnel and station cavern using drill & blasting, NATM, and TBM tunneling in soft and hard ground
Proven experience in developing contract drawings, specifications, and memoranda and reports as related to tunneling and underground excavations
Solid background in rock mechanics and underground support
Ability and willingness for travel, field work, and work at project sites
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
