Whole Foods Market Chef in San Francisco, California

Job DescriptionOversee the food preparation process, creation of recipes and the selection of the items in the Prepared Foods case. Maintain attractive Prepared Foods displays and support the regional Prepared Foods vision and regional standards. Ensure a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient service to customers and Team Members.Responsibilities

  • Supervise production for all Prepared Foods venues.

  • Ensure that food quality, quantity, freshness, and presentation meet all Regional standards.

  • Ensure all prepared items are labeled, dated, initialed, covered, and rotated.

  • Maintain high productivity levels, and ensure that kitchen schedules are kept within budget.

  • Responsible for catering production.

  • Ensure that production is done using correct measuring devices, and all recipes are followed.

  • Support national, regional, and store programs.

  • Ensure walk-ins and freezers are clean and organized.

  • Document waste and spoilage using appropriate forms, and meet all spoilage targets.

  • Enforce all safety and sanitary standards.

  • Follow and comply with all applicable health and sanitation procedures and adhere to safe work practices.

  • Report all life safety and fire hazards, along with any other violations of company policy, to Team Leader for correction and report all accidents and injuries to Team Leader or Store Leadership immediately.

  • Operate and sanitize all Prepared Foods equipment in a safe and proper manner.

  • Properly and accurately record time using time clock at the beginning and end of each shift and for unpaid meal breaks during shift.

  • Responsible for proper dress code, including non-slip shoes and cut-resistant gloves during each work shift.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

  • The ability to work in a fast paced environment, with a sense of urgency

  • Strong knowledge of ingredients and cooking techniques

  • Ability to perform physical requirements of position

  • Proper handling of knives and other cutting equipment

  • Ability to learn proper use of baler

  • Ability to work well with others

  • Analytical ability and proficiency in math needed to calculate margins, monitor profitability, and manage inventory

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with other Team Members and leadership

  • Basic computer skills including MS Word & Excel

  • Able to work a flexible schedule based on the needs of the facility, including nights, weekends and holidays as required
