Provides application engineering support to the external customer base, sales organization and the product team for the assigned product offerings and the related manufacturing processes. Determines customer's existing and evolving technical application needs and applies or adapts UIC products to satisfy those needs. Provides support both before and after the sale, and coordinates all issues with the appropriate product team to insure an accurate, detailed understanding and timely resolution of customer expectations and ongoing requirements.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Works directly with sales and customers as lead specialist on specific pre-sale or post-sale product and process application opportunities. Assists Sales Engineer and customer in evaluating feasibility and alternatives utilizing Universal products.

  • Reviews customer's circuit board design, related manufacturing processes, required production capacities and identifies projected production savings based upon use of proposed equipment. Works with product team and salesperson to establish selling price, delivery, terms and conditions, and formal quotation.

  • Evaluates prospective new applications, obtains relevant information and specifications from the potential customer, identifies suggestions, determines estimate of work required to achieve results, and determines feasibility of an application for UIC's equipment.

  • After assisting Sales Engineer to develop a quotation and comprehensive proposal, attend customer meetings and discussions as requested to facilitate the sales process.

  • Explains requested product applications/modifications quotations to the customer, including justification as appropriate.

  • Assists salesperson with technical customer presentations, price negotiations, and customer acceptance criteria.

  • Monitors engineering development, delivery schedule, and advises customer and salesperson of progress.

  • Oversees installation to ensure that special applications are installed and function to customer specifications.

  • May assist in providing Sales Channel technical training. Identifies need for sales tools and training. Identifies need for sales tools and training relative to product or process applications within the channels. Interacts with product teams in developing those tools.

  • As assigned by Area GM's, visits key customer sites to either collect data on issues relative to UIC products, gain feedback from customer on outstanding product issues and guide field engineering technical assistance. May participate in and evaluate field installations for special applications to facilitate key customer satisfaction.

  • Assists Area GM's with assignments as requested. These could include SOP meetings, customer visits, training of Reps, or other duties not currently expected but related to Regions sales and service operations.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in a technical discipline and two to five years experience in the capital goods industry, preferably in the sale or support of printed circuit board assembly equipment.

Responsibility for Quality Procedures or Direct Product Quality:

Adheres to Universal Quality System policies and procedures and uses Total Cycle Time principles and standard problem solving tools to continuously improve work processes.

Physical Demands:

Requires the ability to use a computer on a frequent basis.

Position requires the ability to understand and interpret detailed documents and drawings.

Requires the ability to communicate clearly in giving presentations.

Must be able to communicate clearly with fellow workers.

The ability to travel to customer sites or technical conferences may occasionally be required.
