VMware Senior Staff Engineer in Palo Alto, California

Team and/or Business Summary:

Seeking a highly motivated Software Architect with Networking Routing Protocol design experience with a passion to work in a complex virtual and distributed computing environment to join our network routing development team. We are a close-knit team focused on delivering next generation routing solutions for the datacenter. You will be responsible for architecting, implementing and optimizing solutions in network routing space encompassing available and future hardware and software components. You will interact directly with other R&D teams to aid the absorption of these technologies into current and future product lines.

Job Role & Responsibilities:

  • Research network routing solution for enhancement, development and deployment in a datacenter.

  • Research current, new hardware and software components for providing network routing in a datacenter.

  • Develop prototypes using latest software/ hardware constructs/platforms.

  • Implement algorithms to validate and improve efficiencies of current systems.

  • Create and run various test cases to find optimum scenarios for large scale distributed systems.

  • Work on optimizing resource utilization of systems.

  • Oversee with R&D teams to adopt researched technologies into their product line.

  • Document architectures, procedures, and processes.

  • Apply creative testing to further improve quality of products.

  • Communicate technical dependencies and concerns/issues of implementations.

  • Multi-functional engagement with various VMware engineering teams.

Required Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of experience working as a Principal Engineer or Distinguished engineer capacity.

  • Strong Knowledge of networking routing concepts.

  • You should have contributed to RFCs in routing area, primarily (BGP, MPLS, EVPN) and should be able to apply knowledge towards new architectures that help the product.

  • Strong knowledge of C/C++, Python, databases, distributed systems and object oriented concepts.

  • Expertise and real passion for working in vertical stack from management plane to data plane.

  • Should have real passion for research and innovation.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills – be able to interact well with developers internally as well as across VMware.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills.

  • Deep understanding of virtualization concepts.

  • Masters Degree in Computer Science/Electrical Eng.

  • Deep understanding of the UI/UX..
