BMO Financial Group Investment Associate in Palo Alto, California
This position primarily involves supporting IAS Directors and Investment Advisors in the management of client relationships and oversight of client investment portfolios.
Advising, Support and Operations
Assist the IAS Directors and Investment Advisors in:
Investment policy creation and development
Asset allocation modeling
Coordinate with advisors and research on portfolio construction, investment manager recommendations and implementation of portfolios
Ongoing portfolio monitoring
Conduct special projects as requested by clients, IAS Directors and Advisors
Conduct review of client performance reports and work with Performance Group to ensure reports are correct, reflect all investment decisions and are timely
Prepare custodian searches
Prepare implementation plans
Prepare meeting notes when attending client meetings
Support advisors with coordinating investments between client, bank, custodian, etc.
Support advisors in coordinating meeting materials with advisory, research, performance and administrative staff
Assist with correspondence to clients – quarterly meeting memos, topical briefs, etc.
Respond to client correspondence in a timely manner
Interface with family office, custodian, managers, etc.
Maximize client retentionInvestment Acumen and Professional Development
Have working knowledge of financial markets demonstrated by:
Reading publications on markets and keeping abreast of news/developments in the marketplace
Be able to explain investment concepts to clients without financial knowledge
Have working knowledge of all CTC buy list managers
Have working knowledge of client’s current and historical investments
Have working knowledge of estate planning (GRATs, CRTs, CLTs, etc.) and taxation (AMT, capital gains, K1s, UBIT, etc.)
Work with investment strategy team to implement and support internally and externally developed asset allocation software
Partner with advisory, research, performance and administrative staff at CTC to manage client relationships
Coordinate research and performance groups to ensure client deadlines are met
Respond to clients’ and CTC staff correspondence in a timely manner
Attend all Investment Committee and advisor meetings and Client Quarterly Research call
Serve of various committees and subcommittees as necessary
KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS
Undergraduate degree, CFA or CFA candidate, CIMA or CIMA candidate is a plus
3 to 5 years of financial services experience
Excellent Excel skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong analytical abilities and superior attention to detail
Fundamental understanding of all types of financial markets and alternative investments
Understanding of statistical performance measures
Basic understanding of CTC’s systems and methodology (performance, asset allocation, research)
Work well in a team environment
High ethical standards
Understand and follow CTC compliance rules
